
Mental Health Counselor Intern, Faith-Based Therapist
Born and raised on Oʻahu, Hawaiʻi, Sky Okamura is a local Asian American counselor-in-training from a multicultural Japanese and Filipino family. As a Christian who comes from a blended family background, Sky has developed a deep appreciation for faith, culture, diversity, and the unique experiences that shape each person’s life. These perspectives inform his commitment to providing culturally responsive care while honoring each client’s individual story and identity.
Sky is currently pursuing a Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Liberty University. As a Mental Health Counseling Practicum Student, he is dedicated to creating a warm, supportive, and welcoming environment where clients feel seen, respected, and empowered. Through supervised clinical training, ongoing education, and a commitment to lifelong learning, Sky continues to develop his knowledge, self-awareness, and professional competence to provide ethical, compassionate, and effective care.
Sky has a special interest in working with adolescents, young adults, and individuals experiencing anxiety, stress, life transitions, and faith- or spirituality-related concerns. His therapeutic approach is person-centered and solution-focused, helping clients recognize their existing strengths while working toward meaningful and lasting change. He believes that every individual possesses resilience and the capacity for growth, and he strives to help clients build on their values, strengths, and personal goals.
Known for his warmth, humility, authenticity, and cultural awareness, Sky seeks to foster genuine connections with clients and create a space where they feel heard, understood, and supported. He works collaboratively with clients to cultivate hope, strengthen resilience, and navigate life’s challenges with confidence.
Outside of counseling, Sky enjoys staying active at the gym, playing basketball, attending church, spending time with family and friends, and exploring new hobbies and interests. His passion for personal growth and lifelong learning enriches both his professional practice and personal life.
